Dealing with the "true" Christian's guilt over sin...
Many " true" Christians, after having asked for forgiveness of their sins, and having also realized that in the asking, through Jesus Christ, they have been forgiven for their transgressions, are burdened by guilt with respect to the sins they have committed, and sins they will inevitably commit in the future while in the flesh.
"True" Christians feel a deep remorsefulness, and an almost torturous regret upon their souls, at having committed any prior or future sin against a loving and forgiving Father in Heaven, who provided a way for them, through Jesus Christ, that their transgressions are forgiven, and their offenses, which are hurtful to a loving Father in Heaven, are forgotten in the mind of God the Father, and separated from them, through Jesus Christ.
Unrepentant sin is felt deeply by God the Father and Jesus Christ. A "true" Christian realizes after having become a "true" Christian, that God is very deeply hurt and disappointed when sinfulness is committed by His people, as well as by those whom are not of the faithful. All sin strikes deeply at the heart of God the Father and Jesus Christ, regardless of whether a person is a "true" Christian, a Christian in name only, an agnostic, or an atheist.
Until and unless a person repents of sin, and makes a true confession of sin, through prayer, and acknowledges Jesus Christ as savior, making a sincere effort to repent of sin after becoming a "true" Christian's sin strikes very deeply at the heart of God with their continued transgressions after having become a "true" Christian. Those who are Christians in name only deeply hurt the heart of God the Father, usually without even knowing it because they fail to actually demonstrate a truly devotional commitment to the Christian doctrine, ethic, and an awareness of God the Father and Jesus Christ in their daily lives.
A "true" Christian isn't necessarily a person that goes to church regularly, or participates in sacraments, following all the manmade doctrine of their particular supposed "Christian" religion, or participating in ceremonial demonstrations pandering to only paying virtual lip service to God and Jesus Christ, or by professing to be believers, but virtually ignoring the realization that God is not just angered, but very deeply hurt, and disappointed by their continued sinful transgressions after having become a supposed "Christian" when they don't follow through with a devotional daily commitment by reading scripture, praying, studying doctrinally sound commentaries, and recognizing and repenting of sin on a continual basis.
Many "professing" Christians are deceived believing they are "true" Christians, when in reality their commitments are fickle, and their assumptions they are fulfilling their commitments are seriously delusional because they don't actually "walk the walk or talk the talk" on a daily basis, not having a truly committed devotional through a reading of scripture, constant prayer, and a concerted effort at repentance.
Many "supposed" Christians are deceived by false doctrine, and manipulated by false teachers, jeopardizing the closeness of their relationship with God the Father and Jesus Christ through belief in false doctrine that dilutes their relationship even when they are "true" Christians, when they mistakenly believe it's somehow empowering them to obtain blessings that God and Jesus Christ will provide them in the flesh, which is absolutely contrary to scripture.
This is why a daily devotional reading of scripture, and studying solid doctrinally sound commentators and preachers, is essential to becoming a spiritually mature Christian. Many are deceived by corrupt liberal churches, and televangelism that espouses doctrinal teachings that are added to actual scripture, ones that are not in scripture but manmade, all for the purpose of self enrichment and power over unsuspecting devotees that are not sufficiently committed to studying scripture, and discerning the truth contained in scripture, done often by professing Christians for personal gain with respect to their own false expectation toward personal enrichment or improved health.
Millions are being deceived, and the numbers of "true" Christians is miniscule compared to the vast numbers of the deceived that follow doctrinal proclamations that may subtly or overtly pander more toward the corrupt heart of mankind than to the righteousness of God the Father and Jesus Christ contained in scripture. But, the prophets, and Jesus Christ, predict this discrepancy between the truly saved and the lost through false doctrine represented as scripture. So, it should really be no surprise that millions are either totally lost or deceived, and only a "remnant" is saved or matures in their Christian faith and commitments.
Many professing Christians sense in their inner being that some kinds of sin are relatively victimless, because our sinful nature, and the influences of Satan, minimizes some sin as inconsequential and victimless. That's a goal of Satan, and easily occurs on account of our inherent sinful nature to minimize some acts of sin that damages our relationship with God the Father and Jesus Christ. But, the "truly mature Christian eventually comes to the realization that their sin is not victimless, it strikes at the very heart of God the Father and Jesus Christ, and is profoundly hurtful to Them, when the grace bestowed upon them is simultaneously so benevolently extended toward the devoted "true" Christian.
Jesus Christ said, "Pray Constantly," he did so, and he admonished all "true" Christians to do so as well. The term "constantly" meaning on a daily, perhaps multiple times a day, if the true Christian feels a need to access His Father in Heaven through Jesus Christ. That was the regimen demonstrated to Jesus' followers in His own daily devotional to His Father in Heaven, and that is a regimen that must be adopted by all "truly" devoted Christians if they want to continually be under the influence of the true nature of God the Father and Jesus Christ, which influences the "true" Christian toward spiritual maturity.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
Pray without ceasing,
Ephesians 6:18 ESV
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication...
Romans 12:12 ESV
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Romans 8:26 ESV
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
So, what are "true" Christians to do? Just because people become "true" Christians, it doesn't stop the repetitive cycle of sin they will inevitably still commit. Human beings, even after having become "true" Christians, are still in the corrupted flesh, and under the condemnation of sin, although forgiven if a true believer in Jesus Christ, asking for forgiveness, and sincerely repenting of sin.
True Christians can never achieve the righteousness demanded of God the Father and Jesus Christ in the flesh. True Christians, and even non-Christians, may be "good" people according to man's standards. But, the bottom line is that the righteousness of God and Jesus Christ far surpasses the self proclaimed righteousness of mankind, and that high degree of righteousness is what is demanded of God the Father, our creator in order to be received into the Kingdom of God.
The arrogance of mankind can sometimes forget that we are the masterpiece creation of a loving, forgiving, and benevolent Father in Heaven. The standard by which mankind judges their own righteousness means nothing to God the Father and Jesus Christ. Mankind is under a different standard, one that is often very difficult to meet, but none the less, one that is pleasing to a loving and benevolent God in Heaven.
Just proclaiming our own righteousness or proclaiming our own attempts at "good" behavior according to mankind's standards, or defining our concept of leaving this earth a better place than when we arrived, isn't going to save our souls because God the Father demands a higher standard. Only through a belief in Jesus Christ as savior of mankind can we achieve everlasting life with God the Father and Jesus Christ.
Therefore, as "true" Christians who are haunted by their continued sinfulness, realizing the hurt we are perpetrating with respect to God's sensibilities, which is inevitable, and who also simultaneously deplores the idea of hurting and angering a loving and forgiving Father, what kind of commitment is possible to wipe out the hurt and anger of a forgiving a loving Father whose grace has been bestowed upon the "true" Christian?
If "true" Christians think back on their lives, they realize the grace that's been bestowed upon them their entire lives by a loving God. In their most contemplative moments, the soul of a "true" Christian may be burdened at the realization that they've been hurting and angering a loving God through their commitment of sin their whole lives, even after they have become "true" Christians, during which time, and into the future, they simultaneously offend God to His very core, striking hurtful pain to the heart of God and mocking His love for them.
This realization will inevitably haunt the "true" Christian! It is one sign of a "true" Christian, to those true Christians that might question whether they are saved. So, how can the "true" Christian delight God the Father, and soothe the hurt, anger, and anguish that He feels in His heart at sins we have committed in the past, and will inevitably commit against Him in the future due to our fallen nature?
The true Christian can obtain relief from the guilt of sin through Jesus Christ, via a sincere constant devotional Christian commitment, through prayer, which soothes the heart of God, and quells the burden of the true Christian feeling a deep sense of remorse for their sinful nature. The devotional commitment to Jesus Christ, and offering the constant reassurance to our Father in Heaven that the true Christian believes in Jesus as the Son of God, and through a demonstration of a constantly reaffirmed belief that Jesus Christ is the savior of mankind, through prayer, is a delight to God the Father in Heaven.
Acknowledging these things to God the Father through prayer will not only relieve the anxiety and remorse that accompanies a "true" Christian's burden that their sinfulness has and will continue to hurt and anger their loving Father in Heaven, but it will simultaneously demonstrate the true Christian's love and repentance to God the Father and Jesus Christ, thereby also quelling any hurt and/or anger that burdens our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ over our sinful human nature while in the flesh.
