The Basis of Faith
The bible contains 4000+ years of prophecies that simply defy anything other than a super natural intervention in the lives of human beings by a far superior being than mankind. We refer to this being as "God."
The concept of God is a difficult concept for mankind to comprehend because man was given his/her own free will by God. The natural man is "self directed," and has a flawed natural instinct to be self directed.
Therefore, the natural man initially forms his/her own definition of righteousness. But, mankind's standard of righteousness is flawed if we are to accept 4000 years of historical record and the Prophecies of the Bible, which reflect God's effort to bring man to an understanding that his concept of righteousness is flawed, and in fact, all of mankind is sinful on some level.
If we behave as "good people" according to mankind's standards, then we are our own judges, with no basis from which to define righteousness according to God's standard.
True God given faith is predicated on our acceptance that God exists, and that the Christian Bible is the inherent Word of God, no matter how uncomfortable those ideas might be upon a self righteous sinful mankind.
In order for man to acknowledge God, without interjecting man's own superiority to the concepts of righteousness that God establishes within the Bible, or man interjecting his own interpretation of the messages that God has attempted to send to a non-receptive and unrepentant mankind via his Prophets in the Christian Bible, man must have a resource upon which to establish a basis for actual truth.
Mankind is commanded to study the Christian Bible to establish "faith," and man is told within the Bible that if studied with an honest desire to find the truth, mankind will receive "faith."
Jesus said, when he was being tempted by Satan for forty days and forty nights in the wilderness,
"The Scriptures say, people do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."
In order to establish faith in God, man must first accept the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. The words of God are recorded through the prophets and the disciples of Jesus Christ. The Christian Bible is the only resource from which faith in God can be established in mankind, and be accepted by God.
The first step is accepting the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. Once that has been decided by man, then a regular reading of the bible to discern the words from God will establish what God desires from mankind.
Rejecting the Bible as the inerrant words from God leaves it all up to man and his flawed opinion of himself, and the eventual rejection that is inevitable by God, the true inspired author of the Christian Bible.
Simply put, there is no way I am someday going to be standing in front of the Creator of all things and have to somehow justify that I rejected his efforts up to the present day to reach mankind through his prophets, disciples, and Jesus Christ, all of which detailed God's word in the Christian Bible. That would be a spiritual death sentence. No, not me...
Jesus believed the scriptures were the inerrant Words from God, and said, "But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven." Matthew 10:33.
Jesus Christ told everyone who would listen that he was God in human flesh, and that he came to earth to save mankind from the consequences of their sins. What would be the consequences if upon your physical death, you're standing in front of Jesus Christ and trying to explain why you did not believe the Bible.
If you want to have faith, you must first believe the Bible is the inerrant Word from God, or you simply can not go any further in building your faith to anticipate someday being selected by God to receive everlasting life.
